Dreamcatcher Thoughts

I honestly can't remember why I made the dreamcatcher, that hung on my bedroom wall when I was growing up.  It may have been for camp, or it may have been an art class thing.  For whatever reason I made it, I do remember getting very frustrated with it.   I couldn't get my loops even , and I hated the feeling of the semi-tacky string that we used.  Plus, the plastic beads weren't as pretty as I hoped, but I didn't want to take it apart again to take them out.  In the end, it was a lot of work, and did look sort of pretty, so I hung it on the wall, and I think it's still there in my Mom's house.

The same way I don't remember why I made that dreamcatcher as a kid, I don't remember what exactly inspired this card.  I keep a list on my memo app of things that I randomly think of, that might make a good card.  One day, I had added "Flourish thinlets, circle framelets and feather together stamps dreamcatcher" to that list.  So, when I was looking for inspiration, I found that note, and decided to give it a try.

I heat embossed the sentiment onto my card base first, and then dry embossed the card front with the Softly Falling embossing folder.  I cut the flourish flower from some gold foil paper, and cut my circle from Early Espresso Paper.  When you are cutting a circle frame like this, it's often easier to line up evenly, if you cut the inside circle first.

I stamped my feathers in Sahara Sand Ink, and fussy cut them out.  Then I attached them to pieces of linen thread that "hung" from the dreamcatcher.

It may not resemble a traditional dreamcatcher, but I love how it turned out!

Be Still

I have to admit, of all the In Colors that will be retiring in May, Delightful Dijon is probably my least used color.  I'm just not much of a fan of lots of yellows and oranges, unless they lean to more pale, sherbet type colors.  But, sometimes, when paired with the right companion colors - I'm surprised by how well Dijon can work.  A few weeks ago our team had a color challenge with these colors, and I had a new stamp set I wanted to ink up - so despite my reservations about the Delightful Dijon, I participated.

And, BOY, was I surprised.  Paired with the gold embossing, and the deep Elegant Eggplant, the Dijon is gorgeous!  I used a Sale-A-Bration set (Delicate Details) to stamp the lace, and then added a few splatters with Gorgeous Grunge.  My sentiment was stamped on Whisper White, which was die cut and layered over an Elegant Eggplant scalloped die cut.

A scattering of Metallic sequins finished off the card, and brought the gold in from a second source.
