Stars & Stripes

It's time for another ANYTHING GOES challenge over at 613 Avenue Create!  And our optional twist this week is to use the colors, or layout of several different flags as the basis of your project.                                                                                                  This week, I was working with one of our great sponsors, SLS Lines.  In addition to having some cute digi stamps, SLS Lines also has digital paper packs.  So you can print the papers you want at the size you need, and as many times as you want.  Today, I used the USA Wood papers.

I started with a balsa wood board from Michael's that I painted with white chalk paint.   I printed a piece of the digital paper at the largest size I could on my home printer, and then tore the paper around the edges.  I used my Silhouette to cut another of the digital papers into a tag shape.

I cut the sentiment (from Miss Kate Cuttables) out of cardstock.  After it was adhered, I went over the blue portions with my Wink of Stella in clear, and over the red with some red Stickles.  I attached a bit of RK Jute Twine to the top of the tag, and added some clear gemstones to the edges of the board.

Sparkle & Bling Mixed Media Canvas

Several months ago, my boss came into work to bring in some inventory that had just arrived.  As she was pulling things out, she handed me a bag and said "Here, I bet you can do something with this".  It was a cake topper that a vendor had sent her (we don't carry any cake decorating supplies).  I held onto it for a while, but pretty much knew it was going to go on a mixed media piece - and, when I found the time, that's just what happened!

I had a ton of fun making this, and the friend I gave it to seemed to love it.

I did film a process video, while making this.

Ahoy!

I have another treat bag to share with you today.  I bought these super adorable Carta Bella Ahoy There! papers and stickers some time back, but hadn't yet cut into them.  I had a few different ideas of how to use them, but I always came back to pairing them with one of the kraft treat bags that I had.

I cut four different banners from the paper, and edged them with my Prima "Shabby Tote" chalk fluid edger.  I also cut a few of the waves from one of the papers.  I added the red and white stripe sticker and a starfish and shell sticker, along with the sentiment sticker that runs along the top of the bag.

I put a seahorse sticker into a bottlecap I had, and edged the sticker with some clear glitter glue.  Once the glue dried, I used Glossy Accents to seal it all in.

Beauty

It's time for another challenge over at 613 Avenue Create!  This week's fun twist is to make it all about you - make something FOR YOURSELF!

The wonderful sponsor that I got to work with this week is A Day For Daisies, and I got to use the gorgeous stamp "Hepburn Dress".

I had a hard time deciding what to create for myself.  I finally decided to make something for a wall in my craft room.

I very simply altered a frame I had purchased from the dollar store some time ago, with some pearl trim from Hobby Lobby, Momenta metal corners, Iamroses flowers and leaf punches from a Martha Stewart punch.

I printed my image onto kraft cardstock, along with a quote from the amazing Ms. Hepburn,  and then colored it in with colored pencils   A bit of clear Stickles and Wink of Stella on the tips of the flower petals finished out the whole project.

And now I have something I created - just for myself - hanging on the wall of my craft room!

Be sure to swing by 613 Avenue Create and see what gorgeous things my teamies have created for themselves this week!

Mixed Media Prima Doll Tag

I bought a few of the Prima Doll stamps when they first came out, but hardly ever used them.  So, I thought I'd try my hand at a "mixed media" style tag using one of those stamps.

I cut a piece of chipboard to 8.5" x 3.5", then used my Tim Holtz "Mini Baroque" die to give the tag a fancy top.  I painted the whole tag with gesso, then applied homemade texture paste through a Prima damask stencil.  Then I sprayed the tag with some of my homemade sprays.

I added a paper panel and doily to the background, then layered on my paper pieced doll, sentiment (from Create with TLC) and flowers.  The tassel is some ribbon trim from my stash and a piece of Offray lace tied into a bow.  A butterfly charm and a few gemstones from my stash finished off the front.

I used a Kaisercraft wooden flourish, and some K & Company chipboard pieces that I've had for a really long time to decorate the back.  I finished off the butterflies with some Distress Ink and some pearls from the Michael's dollar bin.

I created a coordinating box to go along with this tag, which you can see in the video here.

January Altered Mailing Box

I mentioned in my 2014 Crafty Goals post, that I was planning on decorating and sending some sort of gift to my grands once a month.  Well, today I'm going to show you the decorated box for January.

I have a theme picked for each month, and the January theme was "Winter".  (I chose this BEFORE knowing how
C-O-L-D January would get!)  Because my grands are in Florida, where it should be warmer, and because it is right after Christmas, I was thinking the "winter" box would be on the smaller side.  I chose to decorate a small flat-rate box from USPS (for those interested - I've included dimensions for the paper panels below).

I used the gorgeous "Catching Snowflakes" stamp from A Time for Tea Designs.  The stamp design includes three snowflakes but fussy cutting them wasn't quite in my skill/patience level, so I used some metal snowflakes in place of them.   The sentiment was from the Silhouette store - and I added  some glitter glue to the words cut from the slate blue cardstock.  I don't list it below, but I used a Martha Stewart snowflake punch to cut a bunch of snowflakes from the scrap blue and white cardstock as confetti for the inside of the box.

I chose to cut the paper inside the box into panels rather than cover the whole inside.  This will allow a bit of flexibility to the box as it ships and should keep the papers from peeling away from the sides and/or getting crumpled in transport.

The panel dimensions are:
  • Box top - 8 1/2" x 5 1/4
  • Bottom - 8 3/8" x 5 1/4"
  • Long sides (2 pieces) - 8 3/8" x 1 1/2"
  • Short sides (2 pieces) - 5 1/4" x 1 1/2"
