Tiny Fire

Today's card was SUPER fun to put together - as soon as I saw this Birthday Banners set, I knew I had to give this idea a try.  I may be duplicating it a lot, as there are numerous family members reaching "milestone" ages this year.  By the way, have I mentioned my slightly sarcastic sense of humor?  It's totally on display here!

I started by stamping the candle stamp on my paper in Bermuda Bay, once, and then lining it up again and stamping another candle piece on top.  I wasn't too concerned about perfectly lining it up, as I knew I would be covering the seam with the banner.   I used my aqua brush, and lightly added some Smoky Slate to the sides of the candle, to give it some depth.

Then, I began stamping my flame.  I started with So Saffron, and stamped the typical small flame right above the candle.  And then I started building out.  I turned my block slightly, each time I stamped, and built a large flame shape.  Then I inked up with Pumpkin Pie, and added the orange layers, being sure to stay within the yellow shape I'd already built up.  Finally I added some Cajun Craze, staying within the orange areas.  I covered the entire flame with Wink of Stella, and I was not careful when I did so.  Any glitter outside of the flame is just candle glow anyway!  ;-)

Where the tip of the flame met the top of my white panel, I punched out numerous times with a hole punch.  I tried to do this very randomly, while making the largest "hole" in my paper where the flame was at.  Then I inked the paper with brown inks (Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, and Early Espresso), staying closer to the center of the "hole" - and edge of the paper - as the inks got darker.  I added my Bermuda Bay mat, then did the same punching and inking on the mat.  I added all of my layers to the white card base, and then sponged just a little Crumb Cake onto the card base, so it would look like it was just starting to singe.

I then stamped and fussy cut out my banner, and added it to the card using dimensionals.  At this point, I decided my candle needed a wick, so I added that with a pen that was handy.

I hope you give this a try!  I'd love to see your results.

Thanks for stopping by!
