You Light Up My Life | Any Occasion Card

Did you get the items you wanted from the Retiring List?  Items move quickly once it has been announced, and more items are gone each day!  

For example, I made this card using the Urban Underground DSP, which is now unavailable.  For the next little bit, if I use something that has been retired, and is no longer available as of the time I post, I will link you to a  possible substitute(s) that are available at that time.  Remember that what I share can be used as a starting point, and you can easily swap out pieces to make your own creation!  

As I said, the papers I used are not available, but papers from either the Pop of Pink DSP, or the Neutrals DSP Stack would work great in place of the papers I've used - without changing the feel or colors of this card.  I stamped my image and sentiment in Memento Ink, and then used a sponge to rub a bit of So Saffron Ink on the light bulb.  The great part about this technique on this image, is that you don't need to keep the ink in the lines.  A little yellow around the bulb just adds a great glow.

Snappy Birthday

Ready for a SUPER simple, but pretty birthday card?

I sponged Blushing Bride and Smoky Slate inks onto the center of my card front, making sure to carefully blend them together where the colors met.  Then I stamped my camera and sentiment in Black ink.

If I hadn't decided to put a small coat of Glue on the Camera lens, The card would have been done in no time flat!  However, I did decide that I needed to add a bit of shine with the glue.

I recently posted a photo on Instagram, with 4 different color combinations I was challenging myself to create with.  I had gone to my ink pad display and just started pulling out 3 or 4 ink pads, that I liked in combination with one another, but that I may not typically put together.

Today's card, features one of those color sets: So Saffron, Calypso Coral, and Smoky Slate.  While I chose to make a birthday card with these colors, I also think they would be a great combination for a gender neutral baby card, or a cheerful thinking of you card.

I "watercolored" my bee image - but I did not use watercolor paper.   The trick to making this work on standard card stock, is to use a barely damp brush, and let the color completely dry between layers.   If your brush, or the card stock, get too wet, the paper will begin to pill.  So keep a paper towel next to you and when you rinse color from your brush, or wet your brush - dab the brush tip on the paper towel to soak up any excess moisture.   I added a bit of gold and clear Wink of Stella in the shadows of the bee, and clear only on the wings.

I also painted a few of the hearts in the background with some of the clear Wink of Stella.  It adds a subtle shimmer to the background without being overly sparkly.
