Shabby Chic Wedding

It's really kind of funny.  Whenever I'm asked what styles of card making inspire me, shabby chic is ALWAYS my first answer.  Yet, when I'm making cards, I tend to go for brighter colors, and tread more towards a cleaner look, rather than the soft and shabby I adore so much.

My stepdaughter's wedding is coming up (next weekend!), so I needed to get a card made for the occassion.  Her colors are pink and green, and she loves shabby chic style.  I thought that would be the perfect opportunity for a nice soft, shabby, card - pushed WAY past the boundary line where I would usually stop.

I stitched around the paper panels, and then went around with my distressing tool.  I made  my own roses (as always), and also made my own texture paste.   I used a ratty old kid's paintbrush to dab texture all over the outside and inside of the card, which lightened the tones of the paper, and added a softness to the metal pieces.

Obviously her fiance's last name starts with an H. ; )

I also made a coordinating box to go with it.  However, I chose to keep the design of the box top fairly flat rather than super dimensional.

By the time I finished this card, my desk was covered in ink, texture, and glue, but I adore how the card turned out!  Now....I still have to figure out a wedding gift!
