Art Journal Page: Unfinished

I'm REALLY good at starting projects that I've no time for, or am "experimenting" with, but either wind up with no desire or ability to complete.  So my house contains a myriad of unfinished projects tucked away in drawers and closets.  However, I do tend to learn something from each unfinished project that I would never have known had I not started.....

This is from my composition book turned art journal.  (Inspired by a recent speed painting video by Mark Crilley on YouTube).  I added some thickness to the paper with some book pages, and then prepped with gesso.  I used watercolors, acryllics, pastels, and colored pencils to create the scene.  I sprayed the pages with a sealant to keep the pencil from staying then glued on a piece of white cardstock to add the wording.  .

Just a little ditty that we wrote

I have to say, I was VERY sad to cut into this paper pack.  It's so gorgeous, I would love to hoard it away and just look at it, but the papers (all those music notes!) were so perfect for this card, I had to grit my teeth and make the first slice.  I did, however, manage to incorporate the little pieces onto the back, so there was no waste of any of these beautiful papers!

Details:

The flowers were all made from cream cardstock
and then "watercolored" with Distress Inks
Did you know I actually play the flute?
Not well anymore - but I was okay at it when I was a teenager.
I still pick it up and make some noise  (I wouldn't call it MUSIC!)  once in a while.
My oldest stepdaughter also plays/played the flute.

The metal tag (it wound up a little to high up to tell it's a tag) is
aluminium foil over cardstock.  I burnished it very lightly with a bit of  the
black soot distress ink after embossing.

The stamp on the back of the card is a Stampabilities rubber stamp
I picked up ages ago.  I use it when I remember that I have it,
which really isn't all that often!

Cold Nose, Warm Thoughts

A few weeks ago, when my hubby and niece were struggling with some ideas for me as gifts, I had made to offhand (and, yes, a bit sarcastic) comment that "I'm soooooo hard to buy for because a gift card to the craft store makes me totally giddy".  Lucky me, that's what BOTH of them got me for Christmas!  So, I went a little crazy on the clearance Christmas/Winter stuff.  I got several new paper packs, a few embellies, and managed to get a few new digis with another little gift card.  So much for that hope for spring......

This particular card will be going to a friend of mine who's a little coffee-powered dynamo, so the inside sentiment is PERFECT for her!  And I adore this cutie with her to-go cup of liquid warmth!

And you know what song I was humming the WHOLE time I was making this?

 "Baby it's cold outside"

Dangit.

A Fairy Happy Birthday

Oh-my-gosh it's 2013!!  Wow how time flies!

Despite the last few weeks being filled with some of life's usual twists and turns, I managed to get my craft on, and get a jump on my dozens of birthday cards that I need this year.  I had desperately wanted some snow for Christmas, and got it on Christmas night, but I'm tired of it now, and dreaming of spring....luckily this adorable Yampuff image, and a new super-cute paper pack, were a perfect (though momentary) distraction from the gray and gloomy outside my window.

  • Aqua, lime green, white Card stock
  • Creative Imaginations "Loolah" paper pad
  • Cherry Blossom Fairy By Yampuff

  • Studio G paper flowers

Friday Freebie: Tower Background

Hello!  I hope your holiday season was amazing!  Mine was the usual mix of sweet & "pull your hair out" moments.  Although, by the 28th of Dec., I was D-O-N-E.  All the inside decorations were put away.  Now, if it would just warm up a bit, we could get the outside decorations dried out and stored away.

I'm not sure if this week's freebie will be Rapunzel's home, or some girl who got sick of waiting and decided to be her own hero...(depending on how you color it, that could be sheets or hair dangling from that window!).

Oh, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!  "See" you Monday!
