Full of Hot Air

Last night, I attended a very special Christmas party.  The project I'm sharing with you today was my gift PACKAGING for this party.  You might easily guess, but when Stampin' Up! demonstrators do a gift exchange - it's ALL about the wrap!  And I was so excited to get 2nd place in the wrapping contest at the party!

I honestly don't know where this idea came from - it just sort of popped into my head.  But I love how it turned out.  I completed this project back in October, so I've had some time to see it sitting on my shelf, and it still was making me smile two weeks later.

A Hot Air Balloon, with the basket as the gift box!

I made a template*, and cut the panels out in the shape of the balloon.  Each panel took one sheet of 8.5"x 11" card stock - there are 12 panels total.

Once cut, each panel was stamped, and inked, before being assembled - scored down the center, and then glued back to back to create the 3D balloon shape.

I decorated my balloon with bows, banners, flowers, a heat embossed "topper",  and a stamped sentiment.

I created the box bottom for the basket, and wrapped some paper straws with Designer series paper.  I cut a slit in the top of each straw, and then slid a panel into the cut, and used my fine tip glue to adhere it in place.

I made the lid of the box entirely removable.  Remember, this is mean to be gift packaging.  However, I did want the balloon to be able to be displayed as a balloon, and not always as a gift box.

It was quite fun to create this "over the top" gift box.  I hope to make another.  Though this time, perhaps, a bit simpler.

*Per request, I'm uploading the template I used to cut the balloon panels.  Click on the photo to enlarge it, and then right click the image to save it.  Print this onto type paper, and then it can be cut around to make the template for the balloon shape.

Thanks for stopping by!

Much love,
