Pinterest helped me on this card! I happened to notice that my stepdaughter had been pinning a LOT of pirate birthday party ideas - and since she has 7 birthdays in her family in the next couple months, I asked what the deal was. As it turns out, my soon-to-be 5 year old grand is obsessing over pirates at the moment and his birthday is next week!
I made the treasure map in the back on a beige parchment paper. I ripped the edges to get the shape, then drew the map with a Sharpie. Then I crumpled it up a few times to soften the page, and painted the page with coffee (the flag suffered, but it made all the ink look like the map had been floating in water at some point....it was kind of a cool effect that the photo doesn't really pick up). Then I distressed the edges with some ink.
Inside the card reads: "May yer birthday be a happy and prosperous one fer ye - Arrrrgh!"
