Be Strong

You would think at this point, we would all have become experts at what to say in a card.  But there are some cards sent, that I think will always be difficult to fill out. This card is one of those that I find hard to find the words for. A friend has begun chemotherapy treatment recently, and I wanted to send her a card of encouragement, as she starts that process.

I used a sheet of Prima "Fairy Belle" paper on the card (the pink background is one side of the paper, and the tan foreground is the other side).  I edged the paper panels with Prima fluid chalk ink in "Shabby Tote".  I stamped the sentiment (a Stampabilities stamp) with StazOn, and then wanted to give it just a little more, so I brushed over the word "heart" with my clear Wink of Stella pen (it's easiest to see, if you enlarge the photo below).  This gave it a really subtle sparkle that still suited the card.

The top paper panel was wrapped with some Offray lace from my stash, and then adhered with dimentionals.  I added a bit of sheer white ribbon tied in a bow, and some self adhesive pearls to the corners.

Mixed Media Prima Doll Tag

I bought a few of the Prima Doll stamps when they first came out, but hardly ever used them.  So, I thought I'd try my hand at a "mixed media" style tag using one of those stamps.

I cut a piece of chipboard to 8.5" x 3.5", then used my Tim Holtz "Mini Baroque" die to give the tag a fancy top.  I painted the whole tag with gesso, then applied homemade texture paste through a Prima damask stencil.  Then I sprayed the tag with some of my homemade sprays.

I added a paper panel and doily to the background, then layered on my paper pieced doll, sentiment (from Create with TLC) and flowers.  The tassel is some ribbon trim from my stash and a piece of Offray lace tied into a bow.  A butterfly charm and a few gemstones from my stash finished off the front.

I used a Kaisercraft wooden flourish, and some K & Company chipboard pieces that I've had for a really long time to decorate the back.  I finished off the butterflies with some Distress Ink and some pearls from the Michael's dollar bin.

I created a coordinating box to go along with this tag, which you can see in the video here.

Red, white & Blu-Whoo!

Ohmygoshguys!   Three days....THREE...of computer issues.  And I get one problem fixed and start on the second one and it reverses the fix on the first one.   UGH!  I've spent a good chunk of this morning just reloading libraries in programs!

Now that that vent is over....it's time for another challenge at 613 Avenue Create!  As always the challenge is anything goes, but there is an optional twist this week to use your country's colors!

I was lucky enough to use the super adorable Owl Tubs from our sponsor Limited Runs.

I wanted to push myself a bit with this week's twist, and see if I could create something that. at first glance, didn't feel super-over-the-top like an Independence Day card.  So, instead, I chose to make my cute owl into a bookmark using a piece of Bella Blvd. "All American" paper.

I cut two pieces of chipboard with the Tim Holtz "Mini Baroque" die then topped it with paper cut with the same die.  I inked the edges with "Faded Jeans" Distress Ink, then added the branch that I cut from my Silhouette.   The adorable Tubs tops off this side of the bookmark.

To decorate the other side, I simply stamped the Stampabilities "Do More" clear stamp on white cardstock, and fussy cut it out.

I used elastic to make the band that wraps around the book.   Because it's elastic, the bookmark is usable in novels and paperbacks with no slack.  The elastic is adhered between the two pieces of chipboard.

Be sure to go by the challenge blog and see my teamies creations as well!

Shabby Glam

I recently entered a challenge offered by one of the ladies I watch on YouTube.  I wanted to include a card with my challenge entry.  This particular person, loves "shabby glam", which as close as I can figure is all the frills and soft colors of shabby chic, with just a touch of black and lots of bling/sparkles - and she also has a thing for anything "Paris".

I machine stitched and distressed all of my papers (Authentique: Uncommon).  I also sprayed the back paper and the image (from the Graphics Fairy) with homemade mists.  The lace is Offray, and the sheer pink ribbon is details.  The bling swirl is part of one from Zva that I believe I've used on about three projects now (I cut  the large pieces down for my cards)!  I've had the metal "R" in my stash for nearly 10 years....I don't even remember WHY I originally bought it.

Added to the "bling" is the Iamroses flowers, which have all had clear stickles applied to the edges of the petals.

A card this dimensional needs a box.  So, I created one out of black cardstock.  I made a rosette with a lacy edge, and topped that with a scalloped circle punch that I stamped with some script.  A couple of pearls, another sparkly rose and some silver corner stickers from the Paper Studio finished the box.

"Peeps" Double Slider Card

Sometimes working in a scrapbooking/craft shop is dangerous.  Especially when you're like me and your mind never stops working.  A few weeks ago, we got these adorable bunny rosette trims into my work.  As I was rolling the trim to put on the shelf, I just kept thinking "Peeps"!  They look like Peeps!  So, I HAD to get some to try it!

The super cute papers are some from Echo Park's "Hippity, Hoppity" collection.  The adorable bunny stamp is a Studio G stamp which I shaded with some Prismacolor markers, and fussy cut.  There is a sheet of acetate under the cutout on top.  I made the cutout by tracing half of a nestability on either end, and then connecting the two traced portions.  I printed the sentiment from my computer.
